The Association of Women in Architecture was founded in 1922 as Alpha Alpha Gamma, a national sorority for women architecture students in the United States. In 1934 the AWA was formed for women practicing the profession,while Alpha Alpha Gamma remained the undergraduate affiliate. In 1982 the association changed its name to the Association for Women in Architecture.
